Amarillo police are investigating an aggravated robbery that turned deadly Monday night, according to an Amarillo Police Department news release. According to the APD release:At 10:09 p. m. Monday, July 1, APD officers were dispatched to the H&L Discount Food Mart, 2701 SW Sixth Ave. on a reported robbery. Before officers arrived, there was a physical struggle, and the suspect in the robbery was shot. The male suspect died on scene. The deceased suspect has not yet been identified.

At 10:09 p.m. Monday, July 1, APD officers were dispatched to the H&L Discount Food Mart, 2701 SW Sixth Ave. on a reported robbery.
Before officers arrived, there was a physical struggle, and the suspect in the robbery was shot.
The male suspect died on scene. The deceased suspect has not yet been identified.
The Amarillo Police Department Special Crimes Unit is investigating the incident.

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — The Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit has identified the deceased in a July 1st shooting as Michael Denzel Barnes, a 30-year-old male.

The shooting took place at 10:09 p.m. at the H&L Discount Store at 2701 SW 6th Avenue following an attempted robbery.

The APD Homicide Unit continues the investigation into this incident. No other information will be released at this time.
